Dream On fue publicada en el primer disco de Aerosmith, del mismo nombre que el grupo, en 1973. En estos momentos, la banda estaba formada por Steven Tyler (Voz y Teclados) Joe Perry (Guitarra y Coros), Brad Whitford (Guitarra rítmica), Tom Hamilton (Bajo) y Joey Kramer (Bateria). Ademas, David Woodford estuvo a cargo del saxofón en las canciones 'Write Me' y 'Mama Kin', y Frank Ishebool fué el acoordeonista en algunos temas del disco.
La canción fué compuesta por Steven Tyler y tiene una duración de 4:19 minutos y fué el primer single del álbum. La canción llegó a ser tocada con una orquesta en directo (en el video mas abajo se encuentra este momento) y esta entre las 500 canciones del 'Hall of Fame' del rock , ademas de ser incluida segun la revista Rolling Stone entre las 500 mejores canciones de todos los tiempos.
Tambien cabe destacar que fue muy versionada por artistas de distintos estilos musicales, como Eminem, (en 'Sing for the Moment').
La letra intenta transmitir, que la vida hay que vivirla a cada momento porque nunca se sabe lo que puede ocurrir, y, literalmente, invita a "soñar hasta que los sueños se hagan realidad"
